GoodWorX Grants: Small Gifts, Big Change

Powered by the GoodWorX Grant Competition, ZimWorX team members are driving bold, low-cost, high-impact initiatives that respond directly to community needs. These projects span environmental sustainability, health, education, and digital inclusion, demonstrating how small grants can unlock meaningful change.

Supported initiatives include Green the Ghetto Movement, a school-based fruit-tree planting project; Flow with Dignity, promoting menstrual health and hygiene; Early Start, Brighter Future, providing learners with textbooks; Breakthrough Bootcamp (CampThrive), addressing drug and substance abuse; Healthy Mothers, Healthy Future, offering antenatal education and mental-health support to 20 vulnerable pregnant women; and Project Uplinked, expanding digital access and mentorship.

In late 2025, the Green the Ghetto initiative took decisive steps toward a greener future. The team planted 20 fruit trees at Hatcliff Primary School, followed by another 20 at Tafara Primary School in Harare, Zimbabwe, marking the launch of a 100-Tree Campaign to bring shade, nutrition, and sustainability to urban schools. The effort continued with a third planting at Tafara High School, where 20 additional fruit trees were added, further expanding the project’s impact.

As one of the inspiring GoodWorX-supported initiatives, Green the Ghetto shows how youth-led action can create lasting environmental and social change. Through this work, #The51 is not just planting trees, they are planting hope, growth, and a legacy for future generations.

The Healthy Futures Initiative (HFI) Maternal Health Project was delivered in Chainda, Lusaka between October and November 2025 to support expectant and adolescent mothers through holistic antenatal education, mental and emotional health support, spiritual encouragement, and life-skills training.

Over six structured sessions, the program reached 26 participants, covering safe pregnancy practices, labour and delivery preparedness, postnatal self-care, and basic entrepreneurship awareness. Despite early logistical challenges, participation and engagement remained strong, with mothers reporting increased confidence, emotional resilience, and readiness for childbirth.
The project highlighted a critical need for continued postnatal mental health support and economic empowerment, as most participants lacked stable income opportunities. Post-delivery follow-up is already underway, including counselling support where needed, and plans are in place to expand entrepreneurship and wellness interventions in future phases. With ongoing community engagement and strategic partnerships, including support from Zimworx, HFI continues to walk alongside vulnerable young mothers—helping ensure healthier outcomes, restored dignity, and sustainable futures for both mothers and their children
In 2025 as well, Breakthrough Bootcamp (CampThrive) successfully delivered a four-week mentorship and discipleship pilot for 13 young men from Ngombe Compound in Zambia, addressing challenges such as emotional instability, lack of positive male role models, and vulnerability to substance abuse and crime.
Beyond individual transformation, the pilot revealed a powerful outcome: participants expressed a clear desire to become mentors themselves, validating Camp Thrive’s long-term vision. Delivered on a $1,000 total budget, the program proved both impactful and cost-efficient. With foundational support from ZimWorX through the GoodworX project, Camp Thrive is now transitioning into a self-sustaining, community-led model, focused on empowering the initial cohort to lead others.
