Sometimes, the greatest impact begins with simply showing up. For ZimWorX, a visit to a remarkable group of mothers caring for children with disabilities in Epworth in 2019 marked the beginning of a relationship built on compassion, faith and a shared commitment to making a difference.
On Saturday, the ZimWorX team returned to reconnect with these families, reaffirming a commitment that has continued to grow over the years. Led by ZimWorX Visionary JW Oliver, the team included Global Head of Operations Tonderai Nyakuhwa, CTO Anesu Kafesu and Facilities and Logistics Manager Moses Chakonza, among others, with support from the Workplace Wellness and Philanthropy team.

The day was filled with fellowship, God’s word, music, a shared lunch and, most importantly, the opportunity to spend time with a community whose strength and resilience continue to inspire.

Known as Chenga Ose, Bring Them All Together, the association serves caregivers and their children with disabilities in the districts of Zimbabwe. Many of these families live in extreme poverty, with mothers often abandoned by relatives and left to care for children with disabilities with little financial, emotional or practical support. For many, the daily struggle is not just about accessing specialised care, but meeting the most basic needs of survival.

That struggle became even more desperate during the COVID-19 pandemic, when families were left without reliable sources of income or food. When Davis Mambure and his wife, Lucia, first approached ZimWorX for help, they requested assistance for 10 families. But when asked how many families were truly in need, the answer was more than 300. ZimWorX chose not to stop at 10. Instead, it stepped up to support all 300-plus families for four months, helping provide relief during one of the most difficult periods in their lives. It was a powerful demonstration that when the need is greater than expected, so too can the response be.

Returning to Epworth was a moving reminder of why this work matters. Among the day’s most powerful moments was hearing Admire, one of the beneficiaries, joyfully praising Jesus. In his voice was a reminder that, even amid hardship, faith endures, hope lives and the human spirit remains remarkably strong.

For ZimWorX, however, the commitment does not end with a visit or emergency assistance. According to the Visionaryy, J. W Oliver, the vision for Chenga Ose is now bigger, to establish a dedicated community centre in Epworth where mothers and children can come together, access counselling and rehabilitation services, share experiences and find the support they so desperately need.

More than a building, the centre will represent a place of belonging, a safe and welcoming space where mothers are not alone, children are valued and families can find dignity, encouragement and hope. It is about moving beyond temporary relief towards lasting support and creating a community where these families can thrive, not simply survive.
From that first visit in 2019, to standing alongside more than 300 families during the pandemic, and now working towards a permanent centre, ZimWorX continues to turn compassion into meaningful action. Because no mother should have to carry the weight of this journey alone, and no child should be defined by the challenges they face. This is the heart of ZimWorX’s mission: transforming lives while making a global impact.
